People-focused and place-based
Fire to Flourish is a long-term community impact program providing direct support to communities as the first and last responders to disasters. Led by Monash University, we are partnering with four communities recently affected by disasters to co-create innovative approaches in community-led disaster recovery and long-term resilience.
Community-led action
Working at the intersection of community development, disaster resilience and innovation, we work deeply within communities to explore, analyse, co-design and co-create the foundations for a thriving future that disrupts the cycles of entrenched disadvantage.

Knowledge and research
We are co-creating innovative research and knowledge at the intersection of bushfire recovery, disaster resilience and community development, accelerating change towards a reimagined model of disaster resilience. Research is interwoven throughout our program to support communities as they take resilience-building action.

Who we are
Fire to Flourish is led by Monash University and supported by philanthropic partners, the Paul Ramsay Foundation and Metal Manufactures Pty Ltd, with additional support from the Lowy Foundation. We partner with councils and community organisations to facilitate local resilience.

What we do
Fire to Flourish supports communities to lead their own recovery and resilience-building. We take a collaborative hands-on approach, tailored to each community and the local Indigenous and broader community context and priorities of locals.
Our Network

DisasterWISE Communities Network
DisasterWISE is a movement of people building disaster resilience through self-determination and community-led action. Seeded by Fire to Flourish and launched in 2023, this bold community-led initiative is an inclusive space for collaboration, learning and action.

National Indigenous Disaster Resilience
National Indigenous Disaster Resilience is an independent research program founded by Fire to Flourish in 2022 in recognition of the disproportionate impact that natural hazards have had, and will continue to have, on Indigenous peoples and communities. NIDR champions Indigenous leadership in disaster resilience through research with Indigenous communities across Australia.
